The government has decided to support low-income housing expenses considering income, housing type and rent burden. However, housing benefit is not enough to reflect types of rent and rent burden of low-income households.
This study was to examine the effects of low-income tenants characteristics on various types of rent, monthly rent burden to income and deposit burden to asset based on housing survey data and present policy implications.
According to the results, it was found that types of rent were different by the household characteristics and characteristics with monthly rent burden and one with deposit burden were different.
Based on it, housing benefit is not yet a demander-oriented housing welfare system but still supplier-oriented. Henceforth, it is hoped that this study will be followed up by future studies that overcome the limitations of this study for understanding low-income tenants residential condition. Then it could be helpful for housing benefit to become a better housing welfare system.
