A balanced diet and eating habit of infants are highly important since it affects the entire life cycle. Thus, healthy meals and food intake in growth is crucial. Expecially, as the meal provision to infants in daycare centers affects their growth and development, it needs more attention to the status of provided meals to confirm the satisfaction of requirements.
However, the price of meal provided to infants in daycare centers is 1,745 won as of 2016, including one meal and snacks provided twice, which draws criticism for not being able to fully reflect real prices, and the necessity of providing fundamental meal supporting policies by calculating an appropriate meal price has been continuously raised.
In addition, although the quality of meals and the management transparency of daycare centers have been improved through the expansion of group buying, food purchase of each daycare center has been made arbitrarily because of the lack of standardized criteria in purchase.
This research was conducted on 538 daycare centers located in Seoul, and 11 people participated in in-depth interviews to provide the information on the current status of management and answers to a demand survey for appropriate measures. Through this research, the quality criteria for food consumed by daycare centers will be clarified in consideration of development process of infants, and polices to support improvement in food material purchase and meal provision of daycare centers will be provided by drawing an appropriate meal price based on the quality criteria.
In this research, for enhancement of meal provision of daycare centers in seoul, presented are policies for: preparation and dissemination of food quality standard for healthy meal for daycare centers; daycare center meal cost support; quality management for securing publicness in daycare center meal supply; and preparation of meal supporting staff plan for daycare centers.
