This study investigates the status of political power re-aligned through twice political changes in the first half of the king Sun-jo era, its righteousness theory, and the status of kings and relatives which differ from the king Jeong-jo era.
In the case of the king Sun-jo, he could not succeed to the righteousness argument devised by King Jeong-jo. Instead of that, Jeong-Sun, Park Jun-won and Kim jo-soon worked together to form a compromise to control government. In the dynasty of Joseon, it was the king who would break through the combined state of the maternal relatives. King Sun-jo also made this attempt once, but his efforts were repeatedly blocked by the maternal relatives. King Sun-jo has failed to take lead the political situation because he couldn’t come true the righteousness of King Jeong-jo and couldn’t show his own righteousness.
As a result, the tension between the sovereign and subject, which was the characteristic of Joseon politic, was significantly weakened. Joseon`s monarchy has lost its vitality since King Sun-jo era and has appeared to be no longer leading political righteousness.
