The physical environment of a protected child care facility does not meet the basic needs of the home environment. Children in need are having difficulty growing up to be healthy adults. On the other hand, Japanese child care facilities are leading and demonstrating these problems by improving the physical environment in terms of child emotional development. The purpose of this study is to grasp the environmental support inherent in the Japanese child care facility space considering the developmental aspect of child emotion based on the user benefit theory. This study used method of qualitative analysis of local cases. The subjects of this study were "Nozomino-ie" which is a home for infants and children, ‘Sankojuk", a child care facility, and "Hikarino-ie", which is a small group home in the local area. The results of this study showed that the four types of environmental support characteristics were evenly distributed throughout Japan. As for the characteristics of relative environment support in the case field, "Nozomino-ie" is the physiological maintenance, ‘Sankojuk" is the social facilitation, The "Hikarino-ie’ has a slightly higher level of perceptual maintenance. This suggests that there is a need to develop the design to support the appropriate environment considering the stage of child development rather than the uniform spatial design. Therefore, the results of this study can provide insight into how the physical environment of the facility can provide benefits to children in terms of emotional development.
