This essay aims to illuminate the great flow of Korea Detective Novels. To do this, I examine the Detective Novels of Kim Nae-seong, Kim Sung-jong, Do Jin-gi. This essay studies the great flow of Korea Detective Novels focusing on the relationship of Narrative of Crime and Narrative of Detective based on Tzvetan Todorov’s discussion on the Detective Novels. The problem of Alibi and the Image of Detective are concrete points which underpin the argument.
In chapter two, I discuss on the aspect of Undifferentiation of the two Narratives through the novels of Kim Nae-seong. In his novels, Technical Possibility of Crime is proven by disproving an Subject-distinguished Alibi. I discuss on the Undifferentiation of the two Narratives on the evidence of the detective’s experiences in the Narrative of Crime which are keys to disproving the Alibi. Meanwhile, the Detective Novels of Kim Nae-seong show the Undifferentiated aspect of two Narratives through entangling phenomenon of the two Narratives. The aspect necessarily correlates with Plural Detectives.
In chapter three, I discuss on the aspect that the two Narratives are linkedemotionally through the novels of Kim Sung-jong. In his novel, the Detectivedisproves Existence-proved Alibi by proving criminal’s survival in the world.Thereby, he verifies Psychological Possibility of Crime. I discuss on the EmotionalLink of the two Narratives on the evidence of the detective’s attention toPsychological Possibility of Crime. Meanwhile, this essay pays attention to thedetective Oh Bung-ho’s attitude which he sympathizes with criminal or suspect.This essay could also discuss on the Emotional Link of the two Narratives through the detective’s attitude which he sympathetically approaches to the Crime Narrative.
In chapter four, I discuss on the aspect of Differentiation of the two Narratives through the novels of DO Jin-gi. In his novels, the detective Go Jin verifies the Physical Possibility of Crime by disproving Spacetime-fabricated Alibi. Go Jin disproves the Spacetime-fabricated Alibi by physical approach to the alibi. This essay could discuss on the Differentiation of the two Narratives through the distance between facts and inference which shows in process of disproving the Alibi. The second controversial point of chapter four is the detective’s attitude approaching to the Crime Narrative. This essay could also discuss on the Differentiation of the two Narratives through the detective’s attitude which he considers the Crime Narrative as Data and approaches to the Crime Narrative forming hypotheses and verifying the hypotheses.
