The purpose of this study is to identify differences between four English skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) of hotel employees and their job satisfaction. Previous studies have confirmed that efficient communication skills of individual employees have a high correlation with job satisfaction. Against this backdrop, this study analyzed the differences in job satisfaction according to 4 areas of English capabilities of employees working at Rooms, F&B, and Sales & Marketing department from hotels located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, South Korea. To carry out the study purpose, 4 English skills as well as job satisfaction variables were derived from literature review. The results of one-way and two-way ANOVA suggested that there were differences in job satisfaction in all four skills. Differences in job satisfaction were also reported in listening, speaking, and reading skills when taking a department factor as a moderator. As a result, this study drew a conclusion that different English skills are regarded importantly in each department and that employees experience different level of job satisfaction depending on their English skills. This study concludes by suggesting ways which can help improve English capabilities of hotel employees to ultimately enhance their job satisfaction.
