This study attempted to provide information that can help establish a cosmetology education system by developing tools needed to diagnose academic major competencies in cosmetology and analyzing their validity. The results found the following: In terms of the academic major and competencies, ‘application of academic major (M=3.82)’ was the highest, followed by ‘practicality (M=3.74)’ and ‘knowledge in academic major (M=3.55)’. For academic knowledge, ‘knowledge in art’ was high among sophomores, juniors, and seniors. In the academic major application, ‘business startup and management’ was high among freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Overall academic major knowledge and ‘knowledge in art’ were high in ‘hairdressing’ and ‘makeup & nail art.’ On the contrary, ‘knowledge in science’ was high only in ‘hairdressing.’ Furthermore, ‘makeup & nail art’ was high in the overall practices of the academic major, intensification of cosmetology skills, and cosmetology services. In terms of overall academic major application, customer management, business startup & management, ‘makeup & nail art’ were high. According to the analysis on the academic major and competencies, as academic performances were increased, the following improved: knowledge in science/art, overall practices of academic major, intensification of cosmetology skills, cosmetology services, overall application of academic major, creativity & convergence, customer management, and business startup & management.
