The goal of this study is to investigate the research methods and contents of the 248 papers published in 「The Journal of Developmental Disabilities」 between 2001 to 2019 by ‘The Korean Association on Developmental Disabilities’. The research contents included research on publications by year, characteristics of researchers, and methods of research on published papers, and analyzed the contents based on experimental research. Following are the major findings from the study: First, classifying the 248 articles published in the journal showed that 27.6 papers on average annually were published in this journal, and the most frequently the profile of the first author was a professor majored in special education. The most frequent affiliation was Chonnam National University, the most frequent authorship was co-authorship with two authors and the most frequent method of research was conducting a survey. A further cross-analysis between the first author’s background and methodologies as variants indicated that special education and social welfare is the most frequent in among survey research articles, pedagogy is the most frequent among literature research, and papers with the method of correlation analysis was mostly conducted by children and family studies majors. Mostly survey research articles were written by professors and PhD program, and experimental research by teachers, master's course, master's degree, counselor and therapist. Second, according to the result of analyzing 40 experimental research papers, research subjects were mostly students with intellectual disabilities in elementary schools, with less than 5 experimental groups and more than 26 control groups. Also, the most common type of experiment design was pretest-posttest single group design. Most of the papers did not present research ethics. The most common study was the experiment period of less than 8 to 12 weeks, the experimental period of 11 to 20 sessions, the statistical tools of SPSS, and the statistical method of using the independent sample t test. However, there were a lot of papers that did not provide social validity, treatment integrity and inter-observer reliability. Based on the results mentioned above, this study discusses and suggests a guideline for improving research methodology, in order to enhance the quality of 「The Journal of Developmental Disabilities」.
