Objectives: We aimed to study Infection control by analyzing the bacterial contamination levels in dental offices. The results of this study are summarized as follows. Methods: This study used samples of waterline at three sites (hand piece, 3-way syringe, cuspidor) of 19 dental hospitals and 28 dental clinics located in Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, and Chungcheongnam-do in South Korea. Results: The result showed dental institutions frequently used water purifiers a lot, and they had low levels of draining water off dental waterlines, disinfecting dental waterlines, and doing conducting microbial tests of dental waterlines. The bacterial contamination levels of waterlines in dental offices were the highest in the 3-way syringe. As a result, the number of bacteria increased as the number of patients was more than 100, and as the established year of hospitals was longer. Also, it was higher at the dental hospitals than at the dental clinics. In addition, there was a significant difference in the amount of bacteria caused by using water purifiers at waterlines, especially when using a hand piece. Conclusions: This study could be used as a basic data to prevent bacterial contamination of the dental offices by the general characteristics of dental offices influence waterlines contamination of waterline. Ultimately, it would help recognize the importance of hospital infection control.
