The purpose of this research is to compare and analyze the depression and stress indexes according to the level of subjective physical activities and physical fitness of married women. The research studied forty-four women in their 30’s to 40’s, who are not restricted to participating in physical activities. The subjective physical activity was measured based on the IPAQ that the subjects completed. Muscle strength was measured with grip strength and cardiorespiratory fitness was measured with the YMCA-step test. Based on the results measured and the standards, the subjects were categorized into three groups: subjective physical activity, muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness. Then their depression and stress indexes(CES-D, PSS, cortisol, ACTH, serotonin) were compared. As the result, the group that showed the high level of subjective physical activity and muscle strength showed signigficantly less CES-D scores and PSS scores compared to the group with the lower level. The group with the high level of cardiorespiratory fitness showed significantly lower CES-D scores compared to other groups. Therefore, understanding the level of subjective physical activity, muscle strength, and cardiorespiratory fitness can be used as useful indexes for recognizing the symptoms of depression and stress and predicting the onset of depression. It is assumed that the improvement of muscle strength and cardiorespiratory fitness through regular physical activities is important in improving depression and stress.
