Purpose: This study aims to analyze the perceived importance and satfiasction of local public sports facilities in small cities with populations of less than 100,000. It focuses on key factors such as facility condition, accessibility, available programs services, and the support provided by the local government.
Method: This study aimed to identify areas that require improvement and provide practical insights for enhancing these public sports facilities, utilizing the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) framework. Study participants were selected through convenience sampling, Purposive sampling method, from users of public sports facilities in Yeonggwang-gun and Haenam-gun. After excluding unreliable responses, a total of 262 questionnaires, which accounted for 87.3% of the total responses, were included in the final analysis. Data processing was conducted using SPSS Version 27.0, whcih involved frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, paired sample t-tests, and IPA.
Results: The analysis revealed four distinct quadrants. Quadrant one included factors such as facility cleanliness, temperature, ventilation maintenance, sports facility conditions, parking convenience, and the quality of staff service. Quadrant two encompassed aspects such as the adequancy of auxiliary facilities, the suitability of sports facility spaces, accessibility via public transportation, the availability of informative brochures, local government support for the facilities, and support for the organization and participation in competitions. Quadrant three involved elements such as geographical accessibility, the presence of guidance facilities, local government support for personnel training, and operational support. Quadrant four consisted of elements such as program attractiveness, program appropriateness, program diversity, and program structure.
Conclusion: To ensure the continuous development of local public sports facilities, it is essential to conduct a thorough analysis of the population structure and the demand characteristics. This information is crucial for making informed decisions and implementing effective improvements to meet the needs of the local community.
