The purpose of this is study is to identify appropriate resistance training compositions to muscle growth and body fat reduction by applying weekly short duration exercise. Male college students with more than 25% body fat were divided into once weekly short duration exercise Group(1stG) of 9, twice weekly short duration exercise Group(2stG) of 9, 3 times weekly short duration exercise Group(3stG) of 8, and comparison group(CG) of 8. Each group performed exercise on each muscle once, twice, and 3 times a week. ANCOVA was conducted using SPSS 19.0 program for data processing. After training, weight decreased significantly in 2stG and 3rdG, and body fat percentage significantly decreased in 1stG, 2stG, and 3stG, and muscle mass decreased significantly in 2stG and 3stG. GH, IGF-1, and testosterone significantly increased in 3 groups performed training, and leptin, TNF- , and α adiponectin significantly decreased in 2stG and 3stG. Comparison among groups is as follows: Weight and body fat percentage were lowest in 3stG, and muscle mass was highest in 1stG. GH, IGF-1, and testosterone were highest in 1stG. leptin and adiponectin were lowest in 3stG, and TNF-αwas lower in 2stG and 3stG than that in 1stG and CG. In conclusion, performing the exercise on each muscle once a week with increased daily exercise volume is considered to be effective for increasing muscle mass, and performing exercise on each muscle group with divided daily exercise volume more than 3 times a week is considered to be an effective program for body fat reduction.
