This study will be mainly refocused on the activities actresses performed in 1930’s by doing the research on Korean phonograph records actresses recorded. It was quite easy for actresses to do the recording through some types of dramas or films, that's because phonograph records seem like a mass media, which keeps the character so called ‘collection’ that was combined with culture like music, drama or historical events at that time. Besides, they could gain 2 kinds of fame as an actress or a singer inasmuch as they had a talent for sing a song through recording phonograph records. Consequently, aside from doing the acting in film, actresses could broaden their boundaries and were financially guaranteed while recording phonograph records. That is, they could obviously reveal the existence of themselves that didn't get attention from society before 1930's and change social prejudice against an actress into a female artist. Actresses researched on this study boil down to 11 people: Kim Bokjin, Kim Seonyeong, Kim Yeonsil, Na Pumsim, Bok Hyesuk, Seok Geumseong, Shin Ilseon, Lee arisoo, Jeon Ok, Ji Gyeongsun, Cha Hongnyeo. Phonograph records provide us with more opportunities to check their voice or acting skill in person as a lot of phonograph records remain than film in researching actresses in 1930's. And that's not all, we can figure out what dramas or what songs they recorded and what kinds of types they recorded a lot through discography (Phonograph records list). In this regard, I hope that phonograph records will be recognized as a cardinal material that supplements limited data in researching actress through this study.
