The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the online educational content in dental education. Moreover, the need for online virtual reality (VR) education in non-face-to-face environments is increasing. Therefore, this study proposes a VR-based learning tool for bisecting angle technique (BAT) using a 360-degree video and evaluates the effect of self-efficacy by learners. BAT was recorded with a 360-degree camera, and the learning content was inserted and edited. Subsequently, the VR-based learning tool was produced using Google Cardboard as a head-mounted display on the YouTube platform, with participants being classified into control (n = 23; traditional textbook) and experimental groups (n = 21; VR-based learning tool) through random sampling. Pretest-posttest was conducted for self-efficacy through a survey. Wilcoxon signed-rank and Mann-Whitney U-tests were performed within and between the groups, respectively. The difference between the pretest and posttest results in the experimental group (p < 0.001) was statistically significant, and similarly, statistically significant difference in the posttest analysis of the control and experimental groups was observed. The results revealed that VR-based learning tools affect self-efficacy more than existing traditional learning tools. Therefore, it is suggested that VR educational tools for BAT can be effectively used in the changed educational environment.
