The purpose of this study is to examine the police officers recruitment system in France in detail and to find out what Korean Police can learn from them. Unlike Korean Police, the gender integration selection is performed in France. The abolition of the gender separate recruitment in France has been continuing for 18 years since 1991, and it seems to have been improved as job related items that emphasized the elimination of gender discrimination, speed, agility, and adroitness in the police physical fitness test. Especially, it is noteworthy that the same fitness test was conducted on the special employment for constable, lieutenant, and chief superintendent to eliminate speculations of discrimination and special favor. The fitness test includes ‘agility test’ which measures how quickly pass through the 10 items such as push-up based on the reference score, and also includes ‘endurance test’ which measures how quickly perform 20m shuttle run according to the scoring chart of evaluation standard. However, considering the phys·ical differences between men and women, there is different standards in case of lifting heavy weights (40 kg for men, 25 kg for women), push-up (5 repetitions for men, 3 repetitions for women), and vault (71 cm for men, 61 cm for women). In particular, endurance test is known to be a hard examination in which 50% of candidates are eliminated, and they fail to pass if any of the evaluation events score below seven points. Korean Police should readjust the physical fitness test items related to work and the reference score for men and women before carrying out the gender integration selection system.
