The study aims to provide theoretical framework on formation of distinct culture of university student athletes by conducting in-depth analysis on their course of experience in managing both schoolwork and training. Also, the study seeks to observe the changes in university athletic departments and educational meanings embodied, by analyzing various experiences of student athletes. 8 student athletes admitted through special admission were selected as subjects of the study. Selection of participants was made through snowball sampling, starting from acquaintances. Data collection took place for approximately 4 months from December 24th, 2017 to March 20th, 2018 via field observation & recording, documentation of episodes for specific phenomena, and in-depth interview with participants. The data mainly used for the analysis were collected from in-depth interviews, and several episodes of participants were also used in the form of observation logs. The findings of the analysis and results are as follows. First, it was found out that background factors including causal conditions and situational context were complexly influential in the hardships of university student athletes managing both schoolwork and training. Second, it was found that univeritsy student athletes were under the pressure of adapting to various changes including the enhancement of elite sports system and changing public attitudes regarding student athletes. Third, it was found that although tsudent athletes find it quite difficult to manage both academics and sports, they have established their own survival strategy to settle as student athletes.
